Things one should know about bananas.

Bananas stain everything black, which as an adult without children you wouldn’t know, they are packaged so well, spillage is rare. I used to use the skin to polish my boots under the office desk after lunch.
Start feeding them to babies and the initial pleasure of watching your little one’s joy at their pulpy sweet mouthful becomes somewhat tainted when the rather expensive French sleeve sticking out from under the bib has an immovable stain. Nothing, and I mean nothing, gets banana out, unless you know differently. Never over fill the spoon, it is a false economy, when the little darlings are gaping for more faster than you can scoop it up, half of it, if you’re lucky will stay on the back of the spoon, but is more likely to go on your lap, their lap, chin, new top or the floor. My eyes then can’t help but follow the direction of the escaping banana, which distracts me from the next scoop, which leads to more of the same.
And breath. I’ve found tucking the highchair in as close to me as possible and calmly offering a semi laden spoon, whilst letting Erbie have a spoon of his own to smash up and down or chew is the best way so far.
And why do they never eat the last mouthful, and why is that important to me? Banana can be quite successfully fed, when out, by pre-chewing a small amount and surreptitiously offering it to baby on a finger. But I’ve decided the only good place to really feed a baby banana is in the bath.

Oh my God I’m a mother

The 'oh my God I’m a mother,' thought hasn’t really hit me yet. 7 and a half months in, I wonder what he’ll become, a writer, a musician, a healer, an architect? What if he want’s to go into accounting, well that’s ok, numbers can be fun. A banker, good for security, a postman, he’ll be working outdoors, a policeman, cripes, deepsea diver, cool, teacher, not a problem. Substance abuser? Work shy cad, tramp? I can’t think about that. Look at his little morning face over there, trying to squeeze something out, hicoughing and chewing the naughty monkey, now that I empathise with. He needs a little drink of water, maybe a rusk to chew on and some breakfast porridge. Ok maybe I have been hit by the mother gene after all. He just smiled the biggest smile at me and let out a large windy pop, what’s not to love. When does the englishness kick in, we must teach them the reticence, he smiles at everyone, and pats faces. Maybe he’ll turn into Russell Brand. Oh God!

How to look forward to your period!

One could almost look forward to a period for these. Not that I've got mine back yet, but I've got these at the ready, little candy striped tins with lady things in. A lovely discreet way to carry tampons. They did make the Reader grunt 'are you back on the rag then', in a caring manner. Men shave. They should have to shave more.

Grand National Day

Last year when Erbie was in my tummy, we had half a bitter shandy in the Fitzroy Tavern on Charlotte Street, to pick our horses, no winners though. The year before that I won on Silver Birch, and spent my winnings on champagne and white Egyptian cotton bedlinen. This year I won again, yey, and am contemplating anything from an Alex Munroe piece to shoes for Erbie. I only put two quid on each way, but got a return of £169, it would have been more if the Reader hadn't stuck with the odds at the time of betting, but I'm not complaining, far from it. Sadly, we spent the day with an underlying current of malice hovering in the air. I sensed it on waking, that look in his eyes, the voices were back in his head. We nearly came to blows, but managed an air of joviality, stern words spoken quietly and me dapping along like a soppy puppy that's not sure what it's done wrong. The sun was out and Erbie had fun, teething on the back burner. I went bare legged for the first time, should have shaved, but who was to know. Am sat in silence, some stupid film on TV muted, and the boys in bed. A drawer full of twenty pound notes, (it's a very small drawer, and I so wanted to say that).

John Masters Organics

This stuff is fantastic.
Lovely girl in John Bell and Croyden put me on to it.
No additives, all natural, smells divine and works, my hair is detangled, and that's saying something for a bottle blonde.

STRESSED

Completely stressed out and freewheeling this morning. Couldn't find any pants so going commando (under tights). It's a beautiful sunny morning, the boys are napping. Blinds down, mother-in-law on way in to plan her kitchen. Have to redraw plan she gave away. Should be doing that now. Would like some breafask but disorganised and have nothing in, eggs. am contemplating getting cash out from credit card to buy friut and veg from market. Want to give Erbie stewed apple and banana. Worked for 3 and a half hours last night, drawing graphs, if I can make April, May, June & July's rent in advance.. Guardian reader depressed, sent him to North London last night. He's got one job at weekend, that's it for past 5 weeks. We are living on credit cards. Can't remembre the last time we had you know what, he's getting groin pain, think it may be related. I must get to FP clinic. This flat is too small for space from baby to be grown up and down and dirty. Have letter to type up for French Friend, should get baby bouncy chair on Ebay. Need to clean floor and cook some real food. Waitrose curry, does not a good wife make.
